Paris is the capital of France and, with its suburbs, the largest city in the European Union. It grew from a small island in the Seine into the seat of the French kings, the stage of the Revolution and the city that Baron Haussmann rebuilt with wide boulevards in the 19th century. Today people come for its museums, its cathedral and its cafés, and for the views along the river.
