The Peasant Wedding, Pieter Bruegel the Elder

The guests crowd round a long table in a barn, the bride sitting smugly under a paper crown in front of a green cloth. Two men carry in bowls of porridge on a door taken off its hinges, a bagpiper looks hungrily at the food and a child in a big hat licks a plate clean.

Nobody is sure which one is the groom. Bruegel painted the people of the Flemish countryside like this, eating, dancing and fighting, so often that he was called Peasant Bruegel. Stand before it in 3D ›
