The Centraal Museum opened in 1838 and is the oldest municipal museum in the country. It has the work of the Utrecht Caravaggisti, the painters who brought Caravaggio’s light and dark back from Rome in the 1620s, and the largest collection of Gerrit Rietveld’s chairs and designs.
Rietveld’s Red Blue Chair is here, and his Schröder House, a World Heritage Site, lies on the edge of town. Visit it in 3D ›
