Henri Evers built the town hall from 1914 to 1920, in a mix of old Dutch styles, with a tall tower and a courtyard garden. It stands on the Coolsingel, the broad avenue that was once a canal along the old town wall.

On 14 May 1940 the fire after the German bombing stopped just short of it. With the post office beside it and the Beurs a little further on, it is one of the few pieces of the old Coolsingel still standing, and the city still runs from it. Visit it in 3D ›
