Bruges began its city hall in 1376, and it became the model for those of Brussels, Leuven and Ghent. Its front of white stone carries statues of the counts and countesses of Flanders.

Inside, the Gothic Hall has a vaulted oak ceiling from the 14th century and walls painted with the history of the city.
