Reien

Little open boats glide along the reien, the canals of Bruges, under low bridges.

The canals of Bruges, the reien, once linked the city to the sea and made it a trading port of all Europe in the Middle Ages. Today small open boats take visitors along them, from the Rozenhoedkaai to the Begijnhof.

Some bridges are so low that the guide asks everyone to duck.
