Bruges lace

Kant

Bobbin lace, made by hand in Bruges since the 16th century.

Bruges lace is made with bobbins: dozens of threads on wooden spools, crossed and twisted over a pattern pinned to a cushion. For centuries it was the work of women in the city’s beguinages and convents.

A few lacemakers still work in the old town, and the lace centre near the Jerusalem church keeps the craft alive. Ride through Bruges in 3D ›
