Het Steen
The oldest building in Antwerp, a castle on the Scheldt from the Middle Ages.
Het Steen is what is left of the castle that guarded the city on the Scheldt from the 13th century. Rebuilt under Charles V, it later served as a prison.
At its gate stands the giant Lange Wapper, from the city’s folk tales, towering over two small figures. Today it is the visitor centre of the city.
