Macy’s Herald Square
One of the largest department stores in the world, on 34th Street, where the Thanksgiving Day Parade ends.

Macy’s moved to Herald Square in 1902, and its store on 34th Street fills a whole block. Some of its escalators, put in from the 1920s, still have wooden treads.
Since 1924 Macy’s has held its Thanksgiving Day Parade every November, with giant balloons of cartoon figures floating down the avenues to the store’s doors. The film Miracle on 34th Street (1947) is set here, with a Santa Claus at Macy’s who says he is the real one. Visit it in 3D ›
